Home defense and personal protection- needing to do training and go to classes- is all no fun and we hope we don’t need to do it. We expect we don’t do it. The reason we actually pay our taxes is under the impression no-one will attack us.

But, defense is something most people should practice- at least a bit. What does an ounce of prevention cost? When the zombies rush forward, do you want to be caught with your pants down? I did, I took an intro class and invested into my safety.

I think my a hobby is going to be doing some target practice at a local indoor range weekly. For maybe thirty bucks and a twenty minute drive, I can go hang out at a cool family business and release tension while building easy muscle memory and working on aim.

I am pretty cheap, my target will probably be brown wrapping paper stolen from work with a few marker-drawn circles. I have a cool Taurus TX22 and I really like it as my first real weapon. The thing is big enough for my hands, isn’t too loud, and doesn’t eat dollar-a-round ammo. My 22LR ammo comes from online cheap, and now I can get it in person at certain ranges and stores… basically 20 cents per shot.

Relaxing?

Everyone says target practice is relaxing and fun, stress relieving. I can see it, but right now I just want to get closer to the target- I am in the steep learning curve. Give me a couple months and I’ll have made a determination. Maybe the small caliber won’t actually ‘be stress relieving’, but I can’t imagine using two-dollar bullets and trying to relax at the same time. I guess I’m not inherently cheap, but I do smuggle my own food into the movie theater when I can. Probably… yes, probably it is relaxing, and certainly lots of people have gone shooting before but kind of quit. It is a conversation starter that can take acquaintances and form closer friends. That’s what I see, at least.
